So Nick Merzetti is a great up and coming (ok, more like already on his way) photographer; and Spacefy is an online booking platform that connects creative people to creative spaces. No need to do the math, we're an obvious match!
When talent meets perfect location, creative juices start to flow...
We invited Nick to take part in a promotional video for Spacefy. Our main goal with this project was to showcase the full transformation of our back office into a fit space for the following categories: photography studio, yoga space, dance studio, film/ audition set up and a music rehearsal space. We basically wanted to showcase how any space has creative potential.
Within a span of 6 hours, we completed 5 space conversions... Starting with setting up a photography studio, courtesy of Nick Merzetti.
We asked Nick to tell us how he pulled off the artistic direction of this shoot in just an hour...
"My original plan was to create a multi-layered geometric pattern that would be very hard edged and mirror the jaw lines of the male model. It was going to be strictly a head shot with the geometry taking up the majority of the frame. Grey on grey, I envisioned it as an interesting use of shape and repetition to highlight the model."
"With our model bailing at the last minute and only 15 minutes to shoot I guess I had to reimagine the entire thing, especially because it was with a girl now and the look I was going for wouldn't go as well with the softness of her face. I decided instead to just rip off the bottom 3 feet of backdrop and fold it instead into a kind of origami looking flower that she could wrap around her like a carapace. It was patchy but the look was there, so with a bit a Photoshop (and some excellent last minute modelling from my assistant) I got something that works! Nancy Voong really nailed it with the makeup though - Michelle is glowing."
It’s a win win situation!
